EPJ D Special Issue: Relativistic Laser Plasma Interactions

Submissions are invited for a Special Issue of EPJD dedicated to the physics of interaction of intense laser pulses with plasmas. This call is motivated by the special place occupied by high power laser physics in the European landscape. An important feature of this landscape is the European roadmap program Extreme Light Infrastructure with its three pillars in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania. The program will provide the international community with unique instruments, enabling access to relativistic plasmas in laboratory. In light of such developments, the proposed issue will allow a better coordination of research in this domain.

The core content of this Special Issue will be based on the papers presented at the First Chalmers Workshop on Relativistic Plasma Physics Theory which took place at Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg, Sweden, October 5 – 7, 2016. However, while the Workshop was focused on the issues related to the theory of relativistic laser pulse interactions with plasmas, and applications to acceleration of electrons and ions to high energies, the scope of this issue extends to a broader domain. The scope includes relativistic plasma physics, quantum electrodynamics, secondary sources of energetic particles and radiation, experiments on the interaction of relativistic laser pulses with solid targets, foams and gases, development of new numerical and diagnostic tools and applications of relativistic laser plasma interactions in nuclear physics, astrophysics and medicine.

The submission is open to everyone working in the field. We invite contributors to communicate their intention to submit manuscripts for this Special Issue to the Guest Editors as soon as possible. Please provide the tentative title of the paper and a short abstract. The full manuscripts should be submitted before the deadline directly to the EPJD Editorial Office at https://articlestatus.edpsciences.org/is/epjd.

Submissions should be clearly identified as intended for the Special Issue "Relativistic Laser Plasma Interactions". Papers will be published continuously and will appear (as soon as accepted) on the journal website. The electronic version of the Special Issue will contain all accepted papers in the order of publication. All submitted papers will be refereed according to the usual high standards of the journal.
