The European Physical Journal D (EPJ D) is glad to announce that Dr Robert Bennett (University of Glasgow, United Kingdom) has been appointed as one of the Editors-in-Chief for the journal starting on June 1st, 2026.
Dr Robert Bennett’s experience and standing in the field will be invaluable to lead and develop the journal together with the other two Editors-in-Chief Prof. Holger Kersten and Prof. Paulo Limão-Vieira.
The publishers - EDP Sciences, Springer Nature, and the Italian Physical Society - wish to thank Prof. Almut Beige for the great work and effort he demonstrated in leading the journal over the past years.
Dr Robert Bennett is a Senior Lecturer in the Quantum Theory Group at the University of Glasgow, where he has worked since 2020. His research is in theoretical quantum optics and nanophotonics, with interests including macroscopic quantum electrodynamics, light–matter interactions, Casimir–Polder physics, interatomic Coulombic decay, and computational inverse design.
Robert received his PhD from the University of Sussex in 2013. He then held postdoctoral and fellowship positions at the University of Leeds and the University of Freiburg, including an EPSRC Post-doctoral Research Prize Fellowship, a Humboldt Research Fellowship, and a FRIAS Junior Fellowship. He later completed a Habilitation at the University of Freiburg before joining the University of Glasgow, first as Lecturer and then as Senior Lecturer.
Beyond his own research group, Robert has contributed to the wider physics community through editorial work, peer review, external examining, invited talks, and international collaborations. He has served as an Associate Editor for European Physical Journal D since 2022, is an IOP Trusted Reviewer, and has acted as an external examiner for PhD candidates at UK universities. His work has been supported by competitive funding from EPSRC and recognised through invitations to speak at international conferences and seminars.
