- Rationale for the collection with a focus on how it fits within the journal aim and scope:

PSAS2024 follows the series of workshops on Precision Physics of Simple Atomic Systems (2000-2022) which started in 2000 in Castiglione della Pescaia and last took place in Warsaw, Poland (2022).

The conference is devoted to precision studies of simple atomic and molecular systems to develop new approaches and access various fundamental issues within and beyond atomic physics and possible new physics. Applications include particle and nuclear physics, atomic and molecular physics, astrophysics, metrology, etc.

The proposed Topical collection will bring together a selection of papers based on the contributions to the above conference, after undergoing the per-review process in the journal.

A Topical collection with papers based on the contributions to the 2022 conference can be found here.

- The Scientific Program covers the following topics:

  • Precision spectroscopy of simple atoms
  • Precision mass spectrometry of light atoms
  • Simple molecular systems
  • Exotic atoms
  • Determination of fundamental constants and their variations
  • Bound state QED and advanced quantum mechanics
  • Precision frequency measurements
  • Test of fundamental symmetries
  • Tests of the Standard Model
  • Constraints of new physics
  • The full manuscripts should be submitted before the deadline directly to the EPJ D Editorial Office at https://www.editorialmanager.com/epjd/.

Deadline for submission: December 31, 2024

Submissions should be clearly identified as intended for the Topical Issue on ‘Precision Physics of Simple Atomic Systems – 2024’. Papers will be published continuously and will appear as soon as accepted on the journal website. The electronic version of the Topical Issue will contain all accepted papers in the order of publication. All submitted papers will be refereed according to the usual high standards of the journal. More information about EPJ D, including instructions for authors is available here.

Open Access: EPJD is a hybrid journal offering Open Access publication via the Open Choice programme and a growing number of Transformative Agreements. If the institution of the CORRESPONDING AUTHOR is part of such a Transformative Agreement, the Open Access fee will be covered by the agreement partner. All agreements are listed with more details under TRANSFORMATIVE Agreements. Eligibility will be automatically verified when the corresponding author is requested to complete the relevant affiliation information after acceptance of the paper during the production process. Corresponding authors not affiliated to institutes with Transformative Agreements are redirected to proceed with “Please select your publishing model” and have to decide between paying the current Open Access fee or choosing the subscription option without any publication charges.
