EPJ D Topical Issue: Quantum Correlations

Submissions are invited for a Topical Issue of EPJD on Quantum Correlations.

Quantum correlations represent a characteristic trait of quantum mechanics that in recent years has become a formidable tool for overcoming classical limits in several fields ranging from computation and communication to imaging and metrology.

These correlations can be quantified in different ways (as entanglement measures, discord…) which are hierarchically related to each other. Several studies in this field have been realized in quantum optics, exploiting atoms, photons and their interaction.

These correlations arise from the fundamental properties of quantum mechanics, namely superposition and coherence. In recent years we have seen extensive studies of different aspects of coherence and superposition, e.g. their possible (debated) role in biological systems, their experimental verification in double slit experiments with large molecules and also in their quantification in the framework of resource theories.

The purpose of this topical issue is to present both theoretical and experimental works addressed to investigate these concepts and their role in various areas of quantum science and quantum technologies. This issue is prepared in response to the challenges and visions outlined in the European Commission Quantum Technologies Flagship strategic document, and the commitment of the EC to support research in quantum technologies.

The Guest Editors welcome theoretical and experimental papers on all aspects of research investigating and applying quantum correlations, quantum coherence and quantum superposition, ranging from purely abstract considerations to commercial applications. Topics of interest include, but are not limited, to quantum technologies (as quantum information, quantum communication, quantum metrology and sensing, quantum imaging), foundations of quantum mechanics and resource theories. The issue is open to everyone working in the field. We invite contributors to communicate their intention to submit manuscripts for this Topical Issue to the Guest Editors as soon as possible. Please provide the tentative title of the paper and a short abstract. The full manuscripts should be submitted before the deadline directly to the EPJD Editorial Office at https://articlestatus.edpsciences.org/is/epjd/.

Deadline for submission: 31 August 2018

Submissions should be clearly identified as intended for the Topical Issue "Quantum Correlations". Papers will be published continuously and will appear (as soon as accepted) on the journal website. The electronic version of the Topical Issue will contain all accepted papers in the order of publication. All submitted papers will be refereed according to the usual high standards of the journal. More general information about EPJD including instructions for authors is available at http://epjd.epj.org/.
