EPJ D Topical Issue: Electron and Positron Interactions and Their Applications: a tribute to Professor Michael Brunger

Submissions are invited for a Topical Issue in EPJD in “Electron and Positron Interactions and Their Applications: a tribute to Professor Michael Brunger”. The issue is intended to gather contributions from contemporary research on electron and positron interactions, both theory and experiment, and applications of these studies across areas such as, but not limited to, atmospheric modelling, materials characterisation, medical science, biological imaging and chemical processing.
Michael Brunger commenced his research career in the early 1980s working on low energy electron collisions with atoms and molecules while a graduate student at Flinders University in Adelaide, South Australia. His early work, and that throughout his career, is characterised by highly accurate measurements of absolute scattering cross sections and through these measurements he developed strong collaborations with quantum scattering and charged-particle transport theorists, many of whom he published with jointly. Following several years as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Australian National University Michael returned to Flinders and, after being appointed to the faculty there, started to work on measurements that were important across a range of important industrial, medical, environmental and atmospheric applications. To this end he and colleagues developed an advanced atmospheric modelling code and used their data, and the data of others, to provide accurate predictions and insight into the behaviour of our atmosphere and the atmospheres of neighbouring planets. At this time Michael also ventured into studies of positron scattering from atoms and molecules and through all of these activities he developed an extensive network of international collaborators and colleagues, many of whom contributed to his more than 350 academic publications. Michael Brunger passed away on 14 September 2022.
The submission of contributions is now open. We invite interested authors to contact the guest editors, providing a tentative title and a short abstract of their contribution. The full manuscripts should be submitted before the deadline directly to the EPJD Editorial Office at https://www.editorialmanager.com/epjd/.
Submissions should be clearly identified as intended for the Topical Issue on “Electron and Positron Interactions and Their Applications: a tribute to Professor Michael Brunger”. Papers will be published continuously and will appear as soon as accepted on the journal website. The electronic version of the Topical Issue will contain all accepted papers in the order of publication. All submitted papers will be refereed according to the usual high standards of the journal.
