Submissions are invited for a Topical Issue of EPJ B on Quantum phase transitions and open quantum systems: A tribute to Prof. Amit Dutta.
Understanding zero temperature quantum phase transitions is essential to explain the unconventional behavior observed in some systems at small but finite temperatures. This non-trivial behavior is attributed to a delicate interplay of zero temperature quantum fluctuations and thermal fluctuations. Quantum critical systems taken out of equilibrium and evolving in presence of dissipation present a novel path to understand this undergoing critical phenomena. Recent experimental progress using different platforms, including ultracold atoms, superconducting qubits and nitrogen vacancy centers in diamonds, have made these questions even more relevant.
The aim of this focussed issue is to have a deeper understanding of the interplay between quantum criticality and dissipation.
Topics to be covered include but are not limited to:
- Quantum phase transitions
- Non-equilibrium dynamics of quantum many body systems
- Open quantum systems
- Quantum information
This issue is dedicated to the memory of Prof Amit Dutta. Prof. Dutta was a faculty member in the Physics Department at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India since 2003. He was a condensed matter physicist working in various aspects of phase transitions, non-equilibrium systems, quantum information and quantum critical phenomena. Prof. Amit Dutta was also a member of the Editorial Board of EPJB.
Original research papers, mini-reviews, and pedagogical introductions focusing on the latest experimental, theoretical or computational advancements related Quantum phase transitions and open quantum systems are welcome. We invite contributors to communicate their intention to submit manuscripts for this Topical Issue to the Guest Editors as soon as possible. Please provide the tentative title of the paper and a short abstract. The full manuscripts should be submitted before the deadline directly to the EPJ B Editorial Office at https://www.editorialmanager.com/epjb/.
Deadline for submission: October 31, 2023
Submissions should be clearly identified as intended for the Topical Issue on ‘Quantum phase transitions and open quantum systems: A tribute to Prof. Amit Dutta’. Papers will be published continuously and will appear as soon as accepted on the journal website. The electronic version of the Topical Issue will contain all accepted papers in the order of publication. All submitted papers will be refereed according to the usual high standards of the journal. More information about EPJ B, including instructions for authors is available here.
