EPJ ST Special Issue: Molecular and Cellular Mechanics

Molecular and cellular mechanics is a fundamental field for understanding the physiology and pathology of biological systems at nano- and microscale. It is widely recognized that cell behaviors highly depend on its microenvironment, including extracellular matrix and neighboring cells. One can regulate cell behaviors such as migration, differentiation, proliferation and immunity, etc., through modulating the cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. A quantitative study of the biophysical mechanisms underlying the cellular behaviors will contribute to the understanding of the pathogenesis and development of diseases, such as tumors, cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative disease, etc.
This issue will cover varied aspects of molecular and cellular biomechanics in the above related topics. The proposed issue will focus on the areas of molecular and cell mechanics listed below, but will also include other areas:
- Mechanotransduction in cell behaviors
- Mechanosensity of cells and proteins
- Collective cell migration
- Cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions
- Computational study on cells and proteins
- Mechanics and physics of biomaterials
- New experimental or computational methods for studying molecular and cell mechanics
The Guest Editors invite authors to submit their original research and short reviews on the theme of the Special Issue of the European Physical Journal - Special Topics. More detailed descriptions of each paper type can be found in the Submission Guidelines. Manuscripts should be prepared using the latex template (preferably 2-column layout), which can be downloaded here.
Articles should be submitted to the Editorial Office of EPJ ST via the submission system, and should be clearly identified as intended for the topical issue “Molecular and Cellular Mechanics”.
